Subtitle and translate any video,
start to finish, free and offline.
A desktop app, not a web service: transcribe, edit, translate and export watermark-free video, free with no time limit. Nothing leaves your machine.
- actually free
- fully offline
- no watermark
- no account
- macOS + Windows
Runs on Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 10/11.
How it works
-
01
Drop in a video
Drag your file onto the app. It stays on your disk.
-
02
Watch it transcribe
On-device speech recognition times every word. A typical video takes a few minutes or less.
-
03
Edit, style, translate
Fix text inline, retime on the waveform, pick a look, translate side by side.
-
04
Ship it
Export SRT or VTT, or burn the subtitles straight into the video.
How is this free?
Most subtitle tools meter captions because the processing happens in their cloud. Overcaption's happens on your hardware, so a complete project costs nothing: no payment, no signup, no upload. Pro funds development with the production extras and the app's only cloud features, optional and clearly labeled. The core never expires and never nags.
What you get
Accurate subtitles, made on your machine
State of the art speech recognition on your own hardware: word-level timing, junk lines filtered out, a typical video done in a few minutes or less.
An editor that doesn't fight you
Waveform retiming, a frame filmstrip, instant find and replace, keyboard-first, with live reading-speed and line-length checks as you type.
Smart line breaks in 30+ languages
Subtitles split where grammar says they should, not mid-phrase. Chinese, Japanese and Korean split on real word boundaries too.
Translate locally
Local models from Mozilla and Google draft 100+ language pairs in seconds, edited side by side. A quality tier with glossaries and term enforcement comes with Pro.
Every format you need
Import and export SRT, VTT and plain text. Open a subtitle file on its own, no video needed, to clean it up or translate it.
Burn-in that matches the preview
Hardware-accelerated, free up to 1080p, and pixel-identical to the editor preview. Dynamic word-by-word styles, 4K and batch come with Pro.
Titles and lower thirds
Name straps, title cards and animated callouts, dragged into place and burned in. A clean preset is free; the full suite with brand kits is Pro.
Private by design
No uploads, no account, no telemetry unless you opt in. Works on a plane.

What it costs
tldr; Nothing, unless you want the extras.
Everything above runs locally and is free with no time limit: transcription, editing, translation, every export, burn-in up to 1080p. Pro adds the production extras (dynamic captions, the full title suite, 4K and batch export, speaker detection, the quality translation tier) at €99 a year or €19 a month, with a 14-day free Pro trial, still on your machine apart from two optional cloud features. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
FAQ
What does it cost?
The app is free with no time limit: transcription, editing, translation, every export. Pro features, clearly marked in the app, are €99 a year or €19 a month, and only they come with a trial: 14 days, free. Details on the pricing page.
Do I need an account?
No. Nothing to sign up for. Pro activates with a license key from your purchase email, checked on your machine.
Does my video get uploaded?
No, your video never leaves your machine. Two optional Pro features are cloud-powered and clearly labeled: cloud translation sends subtitle text, cloud transcription sends the extracted audio track, never the video. The on-device engines always remain available.
Does it handle vertical or square video?
Natively. Any aspect ratio opens, previews and burns in exactly as it is: 9:16 phone footage, square, cinema-wide. A full-resolution 1080×1920 vertical burn-in is within the free tier. Pro additionally recrops horizontal footage to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 with safe-area guides.
Does it work with audio files, or subtitles without a video?
Both. Audio-only files (podcasts, recordings, voice notes) transcribe like any video. And an SRT or VTT opens on its own, no video needed: edit it, translate it, export it.
What hardware do I need?
Any Apple Silicon Mac, or a Windows 10/11 PC. A GPU helps but isn't required.
How do I install it?
Grab the installer below, open it, drop in a video. Models download inside the app on first use.
